Update on the listing of new Australian Morning and Evening Peak Load Electricity Futures Contracts

As per Notice 0055.25.01, Market Participants are advised that ASX intends to list new Australian Peak Load Electricity Futures Contracts across the regions of NSW, QLD, VIC and SA.
The new contracts are designed to reflect the primary periods of operational demand in the National Electricity Market. This involves the listing of separate Morning and Evening Peak Futures Contracts across each of the regions above, on a quarterly basis out to four years. Strips will be listed over the new Morning and Evening Contracts to allow for efficient trading of the underlying quarters.
Target go-live
ASX is currently targeting a go live of June 2025, subject to final internal and regulatory approval. Based on this date, the first contract listed for trading will be Q3 2025 (September 2025 expiry).
Due to the number of new contracts that need to be listed, the listing will be implemented in a phased approach over a number of weeks. Details of the listing approach will be provided in due course via market notice.
Testing
The new contracts will be available for testing from April 2025; ASX will advise the test environment closer to the date. Please see the customer testing guidelines for information on contract set up, test cases and contract codes.

What do I need to do by when?
Market Participants and vendors are encouraged to review the customer testing guidelines and contract specifications and undertake appropriate testing within the testing window.
Vendors are advised to review the contract code table in section 7 of the guidelines and ensure systems are set up to accurately reflect what is contained in this table.
